How does electrolysis work?

There are three basic methods used in electrolysis: galvanic, thermolysis and the blend. In each method, an electric current is applied with a fine probe to each hair follicle, providing heat that destroys hair germ cells. The galvanic method is the original electrolysis modality. It is applied through direct current causing a chemical change in the follicle. Thermolysis, also known as high frequency, uses an alternating current to provide heat to the follicle. The blend is a combination of the direct and alternating current, resulting in  chemical and heating action in the follicle. This method is well suited for women with PCOS and clients with sensitive skin. I am the only electrologist in the area that uses this method. I evaluate each client on an individual basis and determine which method would be best for their needs.

How many treatments of electrolysis will I need?

Hair grows in different stages. Because all hair isn’t in the same stage at any given time, multiple sessions are needed to destroy the hair when it is in the growth stage. It is in this stage that the most hair germ cells are destroyed and this is how permanent results are achieved. The number of treatments will vary from client to client and also depend on previous hair removal methods, this can be discussed at a free consultation.

Is electrolysis uncomfortable?

It is impossible to destroy hair growth tissue without sensation because each follicle is surrounded by its own network of nerve endings. I use the best probes on the market which are insulated to provide maximum comfort. Some parts of the body are more sensitive than others and adjustments can be made on an individual basis to make the treatment experience as comfortable as possible.

How does IPL work?

IPL, or intense pulse light, is designed to target the melanin pigment in the hair. The light energy is absorbed, transferring as heat energy which warms the hair causing damage to the follicle. IPL is similar to a laser treatment. However, a laser focuses just one wavelength of light at your skin, while IPL releases light of many different wavelengths, like a photo flash. IPL can effectively reduce hair growth and is an excellent choice for larger areas of the body before electrolysis treatments are started, saving you time and money.

How many treatments of IPL will I need?

Depending on the area being treated it can take anywhere from 6-10 treatments.

Is IPL uncomfortable?

During your treatment, it is completely normal to feel a warm, tingly sensation, with certain areas with coarser hair such as the pubic region feeling slightly more discomfort than others. The particular equipment I use includes a cooling technology which makes treatments more comfortable.
